Mike's mom and dad came down for the weekend. We had a blast trying to do everything that represents Lubbock. It began with the Ranching Heritage Museum, swam at Buffalo Springs Lake, enjoyed the Art Museum, ate great Texas food, shelled pecans (I should say "pee-can"), and played with Maggie. She wasn't so sure of Grandparents at the beginning, but finally cuddled up to Grandpa the last day they were here. We really love our family.

A weekend of growth
We have always joked about putting turf down on our dirt patch. Well, tonight we went to Lowes and actually did it. I was nervous that it would make us white trash, but I would have to say it is only about 70% white trash. I have to say that we got the greenest grass in Lubbock in about 30 minutes without having to water or mow. Though now I am ashamed to say that I am from Oregon.
Before
After
Also this weekend, Maggie finally crawled on her own. We have been working with a PT on crawling and pulling herself up. I have been so impressed with Maggie's progress.

Matthews Family Fashion Trends
I would have to say that over here at the Matthews's pad, we are about fashion. Here is how we do it:
1. Every fashion idea must be thought of and put on paper.
2. Before you get caught up in the material aspect of fashion, remember that natural is often best.
3. A good hair can make your day.
4. When in doubt, add more accessories.
5. Last but not least, if you don't like what you are wearing, just poop your pants. It will get you out of any situation.

Watch out world
Maggie has been cruising along furniture for a long time and will fall/step into our laps, but this is what I would call her first real steps.

Quiet Book
Here are some photos of the quiet book that I made. It actually didn't take as long as I thought it would, but it still took lots of hours. I made it so some pages would be fun now while others will be fun when she is older.
I got most my ideas on pinterest and I think that whole thing cost me around $10. If you have the time, I would recommend making your own than buying one. They are so fun to design and really aren't that bad to make.
Blue Bell Ice Cream velcro toppings. There are more toppings in the carton.
The ladybug's dots are velcro and you can store them in the zipper pouch. The flowers have buttons for the centers that she can undo.
The red box is a garage for a match box car.
The carrots are a number match and other side is a peek-a-boo with color matching produce.
The dresser holds cloths to dress up the girl.
The wallet buttons close and has cards and money for her to pull out.

Easter
We decided to start a new tradition this year (based off a family in our ward). For actual Easter day, we just focused on Christ by going to church and doing a special family fireside on the Resurrection. Since the resurrection of Christ brings new life, we figured it would be more appropriate to do the Spring stuff the next day-like the egg hunt, baskets, books and Easter bunny.
My family gives books for their Easter baskets. This year I made Maggie a quiet book for church, Mike got a subscription to the Ensign, and I got a photography book.
Taking Maggie around to find her eggs. She found out will fast how to open those eggs and get to the chocolate.

Mike and Maggie's Birthday Bash
This last weekend we had a huge party for Mike and Maggie's birthday. We grilled lots of burgers, attempted to break a pinata of Mike's head (it was so thick that I broke a bat trying to hit it), and ate a lot of cake. The Evanson's were so nice to host it at their house and had a lot of help from friends with set up and clean up (especially Brooke with the cakes). We had a lot of fun with our friends and hope that one day we will live close enough to do this with family.
Maggie's cake was a polka a dot cake. It turned out really cute.
